How To Use DECA Connect To Your Advantage (with Shyla Singh)
Shyla Singh (NY DECA) is the co-founder of DECA Connect. She has been an avid member of DECA since her freshman year.
As I walked through the club fair in freshman year, I felt lost– so many options surrounded me. But what was right for me? Suddenly, one of the booths began to call out my name– literally. “Hey, you there, in the green sweatshirt!” called a girl at the booth. “Come join DECA!” From that moment, I was launched into a world of new opportunities.
And yet, I was still lost; only now, I was lost differently. I was surrounded by so many choices and opportunities within DECA, I didn’t know where to start. I chose the event that seemed easiest for a beginner, principles of marketing. Despite putting the most effort I could, I didn’t make it to ICDC.
As I reflected on my freshman year with my co-founder, Lila, we decided we wanted to do something to guide all DECA members– from novices to ICDC medalists– toward a successful DECA career.
And so, in ~15 hours, we crafted and developed DECA Connect. And here’s how you can use it in the way we intended.

As I’m sure you’ve noticed, we have many videos and articles available. These can cover topics such as presenting powerfully, memories with DECA friends, overviews of topics such as accounting or sports marketing, and more.
We encourage you to watch and read these! They were thoughtfully contributed by DECA members at no cost, for YOUR benefit! So don’t let their efforts go to waste.
There are countless things to learn from DECA Connect. And if there’s something you can’t find an answer to, you can discuss it yourself! Or, you can just submit a question, and we’ll get you an answer.

We love to answer your questions, and will try to be as helpful as possible. If we’re unable to answer your question for any reason, we’ll be sure to either research it and find you an answer, or connect you with someone who may have an answer for you!
Live Events
Every once in a while, we will try to do live events, via Zoom or Instagram Live. These events can range from live Q&A before big events such as ICDC to presentations from guest speakers. We’ll be sure to give a heads-up beforehand, so you’ll have the chance to clear your schedule!
