Making the Most Out of DECA (with Rex Ho)
“In high school, you will have the chance to join DECA, and you must take that opportunity.” This quote is often said on TikTok and by many DECA officers and members. But the real question is, how do you make the most out of DECA?
DECA is more than just competing at Districts, States, or ICDC. There are many ways to go above and beyond and stand out.
One way to do this is through the DECA Virtual Business Challenge, also called VBC. VBC is an online competition where you have two hours to run a business simulation of your choice. There are two phases, which give you more than one chance to compete. VBC also gives you the opportunity to qualify for ICDC and compete for DECA glass. Some top competitors can also win scholarship money. The highest-ranked teams in each state also receive recognition from DECA Inc. at SCDC. The only thing it costs is your time and effort, so it is worth trying.

Phase two starts soon, so make sure to register.
Another way to go the extra step in DECA is by doing DECA corporate challenges. These challenges allow you to compete outside of regular CDC events. Winners can earn money and a special corporate challenge DECA glass. Some challenges have already closed, but others are still open and due later this month. Even if you miss them this year, they will be available again next year.

The last way to go above and beyond in DECA is to run for a leadership position. This can be at your chapter or at the state level. Leadership allows you to inspire others and make a real impact. You miss one hundred percent of the chances you do not take, so do not be afraid to try.
DECA gives you opportunities, but it is up to you to take them.
